ATR NinjaTrend Pro Strategy Toolbox for NT8

Average True Range (“ATR”) was introduced by J. Welles Wilder in his 1978 book “New Concepts In Technical Trading Systems”. There have been countless copies and rebranding all over the net, “SuperTrend” or variations of that, hence “NinjaTrend” in homage of these systems that rip off Wilder’s research.

Wilder experimented with trend-following volatility stops using average true range. The system was subsequently modified to what is commonly known as ATR Trailing Stops. So either can be used in any strategy, as a trailing stoploss following the trend, or buy/sell in the trend direction.

Strategy Summary

Strategy Types

Capable of creating various ATR strategies, using single ATR (SuperTrend Style), dual or multi-time-frame based trend followers.

ATR Renko System

There are many indicators and strategies out there that trade the renko, they require your discretion to take the signals. In a renko environment this can be too fast and needs to be automated. This strategy can be setup to trade renko swings using a stop and reverse strategy from a single ATR.

  • Define the ATR type and sensitivity to capture the trends.
  • Define Stoploss and Targets as you see fit.
  • Trade your plan, using time/session filters to only trade volatile times of the day and daily targets.

Multi ATR Renko System

If a single ATR isnt enough, add a second larger ATR for the overall trend. Only trade in the direction of the larger ATR and enter on smaller ATR, enable/disable different entry points, exits and pullbacks.

  • Define 2 ATR types and adjust sensitivity.
  • Enable/Disable entries on either ATR’s for earlier entry or pullbacks.
  • Add stoploss, trailing, breakeven’s, multiple profit targets

Works on BetterRenko, NinzaRenko, UniRenko and standard NinjaTrader Renko bars. Due to most renkos working in the same way, i would assume most 3rd party renko’s will also work.

Multi-Time-Frame Strategies

The strategy can also be used on standard time based charts and tick charts. Again you can deploy 1 or 2 ATR’s to help capture the trend on any time frame.

A simple strategy using a single ATR can be used as shown in screenshots. or you can take avantage of a Multi-Time-Frame (MTF) strategy.

The principle behind this is to enter on a smaller time frame and follow the larger trend on a higher-time-frame. Suchas, setup a 1 minute chart with a 3 minute larger trend. (ATR’s like to work in multiples of 3, dont know why but you can setup whatever you want)

Another example is to have a 1 day chart with a weekly trend.

Session Trader

Trading times or sessions can be key to any trading system to filter out non-active sessions or conversely filter out volatile times. As a session trader you can define upto 3 sessions to trade in. In addition you can define the exit time of the trade when session ends.

NinjaTrend Editions

There are 2 versions of the NinjaTrend depending on the flexibility and capabilities you need.

NinjaTrend Pro Edition

Full complete toolset with multiple ATR and/or Multi-Time-Frame capabilities, various entry methods based on different indicators and multiple filter types to avoid low quality signals.
